Biography
Born in Širvintai region, the town of Bagaslaviškis on 25 October, 1953.
Finished Bagaslaviškis secondary school in 1971. In 1976 graduated from Kaunas Polytechnic Institute (currently - Technology University) as a mechanical engineer. Doctor of Technical Sciences. In 1976-1991 - an assistant at Kaunas Polytechnic Institute, teacher, head of Department. In 1992 - head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Klaipėda University. In 1986-1987 took a course in professional development at Technical University of Dresden. In 1995-1996 studied at Dresden Technical University according to the program of "Volkswagen" Foundation for supporting young scientists. A member of the Municipal Council of the city of Klaipėda. Was a candidate to the CPSU. In 1991-1996 - a member of the Lithuanian Independent Party, currently - a member of the Homeland Union (Lithuanian Conservatives). Since January 1999 - Minister of Transport of the Republic of Lithuania. Speaks Russian and German. Married. The family has two daughters. Member of the Seimas Delegation to the Interparliamentary Union. Member of the Parliamentary Relations Group of Lithuania and the Republic of Austria. Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with the Czech Republic. Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with Canada.
