Biography
Born in Šiauliai on 1 June 1949.
Was brought up in the resort town of Lithuania - Druskininkai. Finished Druskininkai secondary school in 1968. Studied medicine at Vilnius University. After graduating from University worked at Alytus Cotton Plant as therapist. In 1975-1994 worked at Vilnius University "Red Cross" hospital. In 1994 - Secretary (Deputy Minister) of the Ministry of Health. Minister of Social Affairs and Labour of the eighth Government since 1996. A member of the Homeland Union (Lithuanian Conservatives). Married. The family has two children. Member of the Seimas Delegation to the Interparliamentary Union Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with Tibet. Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with the Republic of Poland. Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with North European Countries (Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden).
