Biography

Born in Kelmė region, the village of Dievoniai, on 8 June 1937.

Withdrew to the West together with his parents in 1944. In 1945-1949 lived in the refugee camp in Bavaria (Germany). In 1949 emigrated to the USA together with his parents. In 1955 finished Tilden secondary school. In 1959 graduated from Chicago University, the Department of the Humanities and in 1961 he was awarded Master of Sciences Degree in finance at the same University.

Belonged to the Student Ateitininkai Association. In 1956 elected to the Board of the US Lithuanian Student Union. In 1962-1964 - one of the publishers of the magazine "Lituanus."

Acquired a wide experience in the field of investment banking and public relations. In 1971 was one of the founders of the American Municipal Bond Assurance Corporation, was Executive Vice President and a member of the Board of Directors.

In 1991 returned to Lithuania together with his wife to work as volunteers. Worked as an advisor on finance to the Minister, helped to establish the Lithuanian Investment Bank and was its President till 1993.

In 1992 - member of the Central Privatisation Commission. In 1993 - one of the founders of the National Securities Exchange and First Chairman of its Board.

A member of the Homeland Union (Lithuanian Conservatives).

Speaks English.

His wife Eglė is a Chairwoman of "Lietuvos rytas" Charity Foundation.

A member of the Seimas Delegation to the North Atlantic Assembly.

A member of the Seimas Delegation to the Assembly of Members of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania and the Sejm of the Republic of Poland.

A member of the Seimas Delegation to the Interparliamentary Union.

A member of the Seimas Delegation to the European Union and the Republic of Lithuania Joint Parliamentary Committee.
