Committee on European Affairs

Monitoring the implementation of the EU law

The Committee on European Affairs is responsible to monitor the timely implementation of the EU law by national legal acts.

The Committee communicates with the ministry of Justice about the delay in certain national legal projects. Four times a year the Committee holds a meeting about these legislative delays, where it addresses the government and the specialized committees of Seimas to put their efforts to fix these certain issues of delays.

The main aim of monitoring of the implementation of the EU law is to strengthen the national coordination of legislature to prevent the infringement procedures of the European Commission:

  • to properly eliminate the already initiated infringement issues;
  • to reduce the possibility of the potential procedures of the infringement of EU law.
