The European Semester is the European Union’s framework for the coordination and surveillance of economic and social policies.
The Committee on European Affairs ensures effective parliamentary scrutiny by engaging in the European Semester process since the beginning of this initiative. The Committee examines the documents of the European Semester, considers the programs prepared by the Government, the recommendations of the Council for Lithuania and, if necessary, makes decisions on them. The standing committees of the Seimas are also involved in the parliamentary scrutiny of this process. The active and productive contribution of the standing committees of the Seimas is necessary for the full-fledged consideration of the documents of the European Semester in the Seimas and to ensure effective parliamentary scrutiny of these issues.
