Born on 6 August 1936, in Kaunas into a family of teachers.

On 14 June 1941, the parents were deported to the Siberia. Farther was sentenced to 25 years and was imprisoned in Reshiot camp in Krasnojarsk and the rest of the family lived in the Altaj region.

In 1947 fled from the Siberia together with her mother and lived in Joniškis. Soon the mother was arrested for her flight and returned to a camp in Altaj.

In 1955 finished secondary school in Joniškis.

In 1955-1960 - studied at the Faculty of Mechanics of Kaunas Polytechnic Institute (currently - Technical University). Worked at Šiauliai Flax Factory as a chief engineer.

In 1961-1982 - a research worker at the Lithuanian Textile Institute, later - the head of the division.

In 1975 - Doctor of Technical Sciences. Published over 75 scientific papers.

In 1985 - docent at the Department of Design and Technologies of Kaunas Polytechnic Institute, headed the Design Centre.

Participated in the activity of Sąjūdis since its first days, was a member of the Sąjūdis Council, a co-ordinator of the Women's Conservative Union of the city of Kaunas.

Speaks English, Latvian and Russian languages.

Has a daughter.

Member of the Seimas Delegation to the Interparliamentary Union.
