Born in Telšiai on 29 January 1951. Finished Žemaitė secondary school.

Graduated from the department of Philology of Vilnius University. Later studied journalism. After graduating from University worked as a teacher in Ignalina region for one year. In 1977-1980 worked at the Institute of the Lithuanian Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences as a lab assistant. In 1982 - translator of a daily of Vilnius region "Draugystė", head of the Department of Agriculture. In 1991 - editor of newspaper 'Vilnis". A member of the Council of Refugees of the Republic of Lithuania Affairs.

Member of the Homeland Union(Lithuanian Conservatives).

Speaks Russian and German.

Daughter Laura is a student.
