Born on 10 January 1956, in Vilnius region into a family of farmers.

In 1978 graduated from Moscow Institute of Foreign Languages, acquired the specialisation of a philologist.

In 1978-1979 - worked as a teacher in Belarus.

In 1979-1989 - a translator, a corespondent, head of the department of the daily "Czerwony Sztandar" (currently - "Kurier Wilenski").

In 1989-1997 - deputy editor-in-chief of the Polish magazine "Magazyn Wilenski" and one of his publishers. Has published about 600 articles in the press in Lithuania, Poland, West Europe.

In 1995-1997 - member of the Municipal Council of the city of Vilnius.

One of the founders of the Lithuanian Polish Union (1988), its chairman.

In 1994, together with others, founded a political organisation of the Lithuanian Poles' Electoral Action, was its Chairman.

Speaks English, Polish and Russian languages.

Married. Has a son and a daughter.

Member of the Seimas Delegation to the Interparliamentary Union.

Member of the Parliamentary Relations Group of Lithuania and the Republic of Austria.

Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with Kuwait.

Member of the Parliamentary Group for the Relations with the Czech Republic.
