An international conference will cover Lithuanian and EU policy towards China

On 24 May, the Seimas will host a remote international conference titled EU–USA & China: Where we stand. The event will start at 3:00 p.m.

Organised by Dr Laima Liucija Andrikienė, Deputy Chair of the Seimas Committee on European Affairs, the Conference will discuss the Comprehensive Agreement on Investment between the European Union (EU) and the People’s Republic of China and its potential consequences for Lithuania and the EU not only in economic, but also in security and foreign policy terms. The Conference will look into the ways and means to strengthen transatlantic cooperation with a view to countering the efforts of China and Russia to dominate the world and preventing the destruction of the current world order on both sides of the Atlantic based on the values of liberal democracy.

The Conference participants will include the following renowned foreign experts, politicians of democratic states, Members of the European Parliament (EP), Members of the Seimas, and representatives of Lithuanian institutions and associated businesses:

• Radvilė Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė (Lithuania), Deputy Speaker of the Seimas, Chair of the Seimas Committee on European Affairs;
• David McAllister (Germany), MEP, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament;
• Reinhard Bütikofer (Germany), MEP, Chairman of the European Parliament Delegation for Relations with the People’s Republic of China;
• Senator James Elroy Risch (USA), Ranking Member of the Senate of the United States of America;
• Anders Fogh Rasmussen (Denmark), Founder of the Alliance of Democracies Foundation, former NATO Secretary General;
• Bogdan Klich, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign and European Affairs of the Senate of the Republic of Poland, and others.

The participants of the Conference will hear a welcome address by Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, and Gabrielius Landsbergis, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The Conference will be moderated by Dr Laima Liucija Andrikienė, Deputy Chair of the Seimas Committee on European Affairs.
