The Chairs Of European Countries And EP Foreign Affairs Committees Advocate The Establishment Of A Special International Tribunal For The Perpetrators Of The Crime Of Russian Aggression In Ukraine
Press release, 30 January 2023
Today, January 30, the Chairs of the parliaments of European countries and the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committees adopted the Joint statement ‘On the need to prosecute Russia's international crimes in Ukraine’.
‘I am glad that, on the initiative of the Baltic States, not only the European Parliament, but also more and more European national parliaments support the idea of a special tribunal. We are overcoming another taboo - the impunity of Putin's regime, which was previously raised only by representatives of the Baltic countries, and now is supported by many politicians of free and democratic countries. The trial of the criminals of Putin and his henchmen's aggression in Ukraine becomes only a matter of time - not if, but when it will happen,’ stressing the importance of the establishment of a special tribunal on the crimes of Russian aggression in Ukraine, noted Žygimantas Pavilionis, Chairman of the Seimas Committee on Foreign Affairs.
