Grand Courtyard of the Seimas opened for residents and guests of the capital city

Press release, 12 May 2023

On 15 May 2023, the Grand Courtyard of the Seimas (entrance from Gediminas Avenue) opened to residents and guests of the capital city for the open-air exhibition THE WILL of CITIZENS: 30th Anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania.

Last year, Lithuania celebrated two anniversaries important for the history of statehood, namely, the 100th anniversary of the first democratic Constitution of the State of Lithuania and the 30th anniversary of the Constitution currently in force. In commemorating these anniversaries, the Seimas proclaimed 2022 as the Year of the Constitution of the State of Lithuania.

To mark these very occasions, the exhibition THE WILL OF CITIZENS: 30th Anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania was arranged with the aim of bringing the structure and text of the effective Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania into focus.

The Grand Courtyard of the Seimas will be open to the public from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays to Thursday; from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Fridays; and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends and public holidays. The entry is free of charge and unrestricted on the above-mentioned days and hours until 16 October 2023, with the exception of 1–4 June and 6–13 July 2023.

The Grand Courtyard also features Lithuania’s largest bronze bas-reliefs Dispute and On the Road by sculptor Steponas Šarapovas (On the Road was completed by sculptor Dovydas Zundelovičius after the death of the original author). Other objects of interest are the sculpture Gražina by Daliutė Ona Matulaitė and architectural elements of the Building of the Seimas.
