Speaker of the Seimas met with Felipe VI, King of Spain

The parliamentary delegation headed by Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, met with Felipe VI, King of Spain during his official visit to Lithuania. The main topics discussed were the strengthening of bilateral relations between Spain and Lithuania, NATO unity, defence of the eastern borders of the EU, and support to Ukraine. After the meeting, the King was escorted to the Seimas January 13 Memorial.
‘Spain and Lithuania are close allies in the European Union, NATO, and other international organisations. Today, our partnership and close cooperation in addressing the current challenges are more important than ever,’ Ms Čmilytė-Nielsen said.
In her words, this was a great opportunity to personally thank Spain and King Felipe VI for their contribution to the security of Lithuania and the Baltic region, as well as for their support to Ukraine.
‘I also invited Spain to contribute to the implementation of NATO’s rotation-based air defence model and to cooperate on Ukraine’s reconstruction projects,” Ms Čmilytė-Nielsen said.
This was the first official visit to the three Baltic States by King Felipe VI, who has reigned for a decade. He visited the Republic of Estonia on 23 June 2024 and his tour of the Baltic States will conclude tomorrow in the Republic of Latvia.
