Speaker of the Seimas: ‘Once again, it is crucial to hold hands to build a living and insurmountable wall that no aggressor can overcome’
Press release, 23 August 2024
Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, invites us to honour the Baltic Way as a remarkable example of civil resistance that demonstrated to the world our nation’s determination and dedication.
‘For the generation that won the independence, the Baltic Way has become an essential part of its identity. For the generation born in an independent country, the Baltic Way is part of glorious history, testifying to the unwavering desire for freedom and the power of joint action.
The experience of the Baltic Way is particularly relevant today, when the empire from which we once escaped is threatening to invade our lives once again. We cannot ignore the potential threats. We must adequately assess them and prepare effective countermeasures. We must remain determined, bring our allies together, count on the like-minded, and support our friends. Once again, it is important to hold hands to build a living and insurmountable wall that no aggressor can overcome,’ Ms Čmilytė-Nielsen said.
