Speaker of the Seimas congratulates the Polish Parliament on Independence Day

On behalf of the Seimas and on her own behalf, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, congratulated the Parliament of the Republic of Poland on Independence Day. In her congratulatory letters to Szymon Hołownia, Marshal of the Sejm, and Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, Marshal of the Senate, Ms Čmilytė-Nielsen underlined the close relations and cooperation between Poland and Lithuania in various fields.

‘Our strategic partnership goes beyond bilateral ties and assumes broader regional significance. The Presidency of the Council of the European Union will be held by Poland next year and by Lithuania in 2027. Therefore, it is therefore important to set clear and ambitious goals and strengthen our region by taking advantage of the Presidency,’ the Speaker of the Seimas wrote.

At the same time, Ms Čmilytė-Nielsen thanked the Polish parliamentary leaders for friendly and constructive cooperation during her term of office as Speaker of the Seimas. ‘I hope that the new Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania will make the most of the potential offered by the robust relationship between our countries to achieve sure safety and unwavering solidarity in our neighbourhood,’ Ms Čmilytė-Nielsen stated.
