Rasa Budbergytė has been appointed as the Chair of the Committee on European Affairs

On 19 November 2024, at its inaugural sitting, the Seimas Committee on European Affairs congratulated Rasa Budbergytė as its Chair for the 2024–2028 parliamentary term.

Rasa Budbergytė had served as a Lithuanian delegate to the European Court of Auditors from 1 May 2010 to June 2016. On 20 June 2016, she was appointed as Minister of Finance of the Republic of Lithuania. A Member of the Seimas for the 2016–2020 and 2020–2024 legislative periods, she has been an active member of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party since 2015.

The Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania has issued an ordinance dated 19 November 2024, formally entrusting Deputy Speaker Rasa Budbergytė with the coordination of European Union matters. Under Article 441 of the Statute of the Seimas, the Deputy Speaker of the Seimas in charge of European Union affairs is appointed to the post of Chair of the Committee on European Affairs.

The first Committee meeting also confirmed the following Deputy Chairs of the Committee: Ruslanas Baranovas (Lithuanian Social Democratic Party Political Group), Valius Ąžuolas (Political Group of the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union and the Christian Families Alliance), Arminas Lydeka (Liberals Movement Political Group), Viktoras Fiodorovas (Non-attached Members), Raimondas Šukys (Nemunas Dawn Political Group) and Tomas Tomilinas (Political Group of Democrats ‘For Lithuania’).

The Committee on European Affairs consists of 15 to 25 Members of the Seimas, selected based on the principle of proportional representation of the political groups. Political groups delegate representatives to ensure comprehensive representation in each committee. These representatives include committee chairs or their deputies, political group chairs or their deputies, and members of political groups responsible for European Union matters. The specific number and composition of the committee members is approved by a resolution of the Seimas. Members of the Seimas serving on other committees are also eligible to be members of the Committee on European Affairs.
