Speaker of the Seimas meets with Elizabeth Boyles, Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

Saulius Skvernelis, Speaker of the Seimas, has met with Elizabeth Boyles, Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. During the meeting, the Speaker of the Seimas thanked the United Kingdom for its contribution to the security in Lithuania and the Baltic region, the development of bilateral relations, and the economic cooperation, which, in his view, is of great importance to Lithuania in the new context.

The significance of further support to Ukraine was also discussed, both in terms of delivering on the promises of ammunition and air defence and in terms of pooling the efforts of Western countries for the reconstruction of Ukraine. 

‘I welcome the UK’s courage and determination in assisting Ukraine. We must also speak about the involvement of all the Western countries, because a temporary peace in Ukraine is not the solution we should be striving for. We must also continue stepping up sanctions against Russia. The unity of the EU and NATO is essential for Ukraine to be able to finally celebrate its victory over Russia’s brutal aggression. We must give Ukraine what we are being asked for,’ Mr Skvernelis said.

The Speaker of the Seimas assured the Ambassador of the readiness to build strong ties between the parliamentary friendship groups of both countries and of the need to exploit the existing potential for cooperation in various sectors and among numerous institutions and maintain close cultural links between the two countries.
