Speaker of the Seimas meets with the French Ambassador

Press release, 23 December 2024 (News ● Photos ● Broadcasts and videos)

Today, the Speaker of the Seimas has met Alix Everard, Ambassador of the French Republic. During the meeting, the positions of both countries were exchanged on Russia’s threat to Europe, support for Ukraine, the EU and NATO security agenda, and the significance of further bilateral defence cooperation.

‘The role of France in ensuring security in Lithuania and other Baltic States is of utmost importance for our country. We are grateful to France for its commitment to NATO’s Baltic Air Policing mission with the continued presence of its troops. France is one of the most active participants in this air policing mission. We welcome the French initiatives to support Ukraine in its fight against Russia. At this time, Ukraine needs a firm guarantee of the strategic posture of Western powers, and it is therefore crucial to draw up a plan on ways to help Ukraine. We also aim to fully strengthen the European Union, which must act efficiently, swiftly and in a meaningful way in the light of the current challenges,’ Mr Skvernelis said.

On her part, Ms Everard expressed her thanks to Lithuania for its leadership in supporting Ukraine, which has been demonstrated from the very first days of the war launched by Russia.
