Today, Saulius Skvernelis, Speaker of the Seimas, met with Dr Cornelius Zimmermann, Ambassador of Germany.
During the meeting, the Speaker of the Seimas emphasised the need to further strengthen political, economic, and cultural ties, with a particular focus on maintaining the consistency of Lithuania’s security policy.
‘We appreciate Germany’s leadership and its significant contribution to the security of our region. We are making every effort to turn the deployment of the German Brigade in Lithuania into a success story. We also see the need for proactive cooperation in the defence industry,’ Mr Skvernelis said during the meeting with the German Ambassador. He also assured Dr Zimmermann that the Lithuanian Parliament looked forward to continuing its cooperation with the newly elected German Bundestag following the German elections scheduled for February this year.
Germany is Lithuania’s main economic partner and largest investor. Therefore, the meeting addressed opportunities to further develop economic cooperation, with a focus on the investment climate.
The Speaker of the Seimas and the Ambassador also discussed bilateral energy cooperation and Lithuania’s contribution to energy independence.
