Speaker of the Seimas thanked Hungary for its significant contribution to NATO’s Baltic Air Policing mission

On Wednesday, 3 May 2017, Viktoras Pranckietis, Speaker of the Seimas, met with István Hiller, Deputy Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly. They discussed the cooperation between Lithuania and Hungary, nuclear safety, the Astravyets Nuclear Power Plant, and matters pertaining to Ukraine and Russia. The Speaker of the Seimas thanked Dr Hiller for Hungary’s participation in NATO’s Air Policing mission in the Baltic States, appointment of an officer to the NATO Force Integration Unit in Vilnius, deployment of rotational forces in Lithuania, and participation in exercises.
“Our main interest is a strong, prosperous and safe EU, as agreed in Rome. We support the full implementation of the decisions that have already been taken. By working together, we can achieve results in a number of areas such as ensuring of security, protection of the EU’s external border, and addressing the migration challenge,” said the Speaker of the Seimas.
Prof. Pranckietis and Dr Hiller discussed the evolving security situation in the region.
Last year, Hungary and Lithuania celebrated the 25th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations.
