Speaker of the Seimas invites the nation to mark the International Holocaust Remembrance Day

Press release, 27 January 2021

On 27 January 2021, the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, invites everyone to remember the tragic events and pay tribute to all the innocent victims of the Holocaust.

‘The Holocaust is the tragedy of the whole world, not just of the Jewish nation. Our history is marred with this horrible and pointless massacre. As we commemorate those painful events, we must do our utmost to ensure that this never happens again. We can never tolerate religious and ethnic hatred and violence. None of us should stay indifferent to the efforts to halt coercion and discrimination. As we bear witness to history, let us foster humanistic values, build compassion, and express empathy. This is the only way we can truly honour the memory of the victims of the Holocaust,’ says the Speaker of the Seimas.

The Speaker of Seimas Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen and the ambassador of Israel to the Republic of Lithuania Mr. Yossi Levy light a candle in order to commemorate 6 million innocent people, the victims of the Holocaust
