Speaker of the Seimas met with the Speakers of the Parliaments of Estonia and Latvia

Press release, 18 August 2021

On 18 August 2021, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, met with Jüri Ratas, Speaker of the Riigikogu of the Republic of Estonia, and Ināra Mūrniece, Speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia. They focussed on migration: existing flows, further countermeasures and Lithuania’s needs.

‘In the context of today’s challenges, the Baltic States place a high premium on support from the closest neighbours. Estonia and Latvia have backed us up with human resources and a range of equipment, while we, in turn, are assisting them with our experience in withstanding the migration pressure stemming from the Belarusian regime. Both Latvians and Estonians are very positive about Lithuania’s practices, and our success is proved by the short time it took us to work out the ways to deal with at least the current phase of the migration crisis,’ said Ms Čmilytė-Nielsen.
