Speaker of the Seimas congratulates Latvia on Independence Day

Press release, 18 November 2021

On behalf of the Seimas and on her own behalf, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, congratulated Ināra Mūrniece, Speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia, and the people of the country on Independence Day.

‘I wish the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia smooth work, harmony, and concord in everyday efforts to ensure the wellbeing for the people of your country,’ reads the congratulatory letter by the Speaker of the Seimas.

Ms Čmilytė-Nielsen also expressed her high appreciation of close inter-parliamentary relations between our countries at bilateral, Baltic, and NB8 levels in this difficult period.

‘In light of the current challenges as we are fighting the merciless coronavirus pandemic and are confronted with unprecedented actions of Lukashenko’s regime at our national borders, which are aimed at destabilising the situation in our countries and in the entire European Union, the statehood established 103 years ago and territorial integrity have taken on an even greater meaning,’ says the letter.
