Speaker of the Seimas congratulates New Zealand on national day

On behalf of the Seimas and on her own behalf, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, congratulated Rt Hon. Trevor Mallard, Speaker of the New Zealand House of Representatives, and the people of New Zealand on national Waitangi Day and wished them every success and constructive work.

‘Lithuania and New Zealand share the same values, namely democracy, freedom and the rule of law as well as the goal to defend them at the international fora and the hotspots of the world. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and New Zealand. I am convinced that we will continue successfully making use of the long standing amicable relations between our Parliaments at the highest level and at the level of the parliamentary friendship groups for enhancing the bilateral cooperation, and that our states and societies will enjoy even more intensive political, economic, scientific and cultural relations,’ the Speaker of the Seimas said in her congratulatory letter.
