Speaker of the Seimas congratulates Ukraine on Independence Day

Press release, 24 August 2022

On behalf of the Seimas and on her own behalf, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, congratulated Ukraine and its people on Independence Day. In her letter to Ruslan Stefanchuk, Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, she congratulated the Ukrainian parliament and extended the wishes of endurance and agreement in working for the benefit of the nation, ending brutal aggression, and restoring the territorial integrity of the country.

Ms Čmilytė-Nielsen has reiterated that we shoulder responsibility as well, because today the future of the free democratic world is being decided in Ukraine. Ukrainians are fighting not only for their freedom, but also for the freedom and sovereignty of Europe as a whole.

‘We believe in the unity and determination of your nation to achieve the final victory and establish itself in the family of the European Union and NATO. We have been walking and will walk this path alongside you,’ the Speaker of the Seimas expressed her solidarity with Ukraine.
