Speaker of the Seimas congratulates Latvia on Independence Day

On behalf of the Seimas and on her own behalf, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, congratulated the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia on Independence Day.

‘On 18 November, 104 years ago, the People’s Council of Latvia acted with determination and courage in declaring the independence of the Republic of Latvia. This led to democracy and modernisation of the country. Today, parliamentary mobilisation and courage are needed not only for the adoption of important decisions ensuring the welfare of the country’s population, but also for helping the countries that have chosen the path of democracy. Therefore, on the occasion of the Independence Day of Latvia, I wish the Saeima smooth and harmonious work,’ Ms Čmilytė-Nielsen wrote in her letter of congratulations to Edvards Smiltēns, Speaker of the Latvian Saeima.
