Speaker of the Seimas congratulates Japan on National Day

On behalf of the Seimas and her own behalf, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, congratulated the Members of the National Diet of Japan on the Birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan. In her congratulatory letters to Hiroyuki Hosoda, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Hidehisa Otsuji, President of the House of Councillors, the Speaker of the Seimas wished them to continue pursuing the path of wisdom and courage in their decision-making.

Ms Čmilytė-Nielsen also welcomed Japan’s strong position in support of the fundamental principles, as well as the growing inter-parliamentary cooperation and mutual understanding between the two countries.

‘Although geographically far apart, Lithuania and Japan share respect for democracy, human rights and freedoms, and a rules-based international order. Today’s global political realities jeopardize these values, as we are facing a real threat to European security that is immediately linked to the security in the Indo-Pacific region. It is therefore essential to further enhance the cooperation between the Lithuanian and Japanese Parliaments,’ read the congratulatory letters.
