Speaker of the Seimas congratulated the Parliament of Georgia on Independence Day

Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, on behalf of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania and on her own behalf, congratulated the Parliament of Georgia on Independence Day. In her letter addressed to Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, the Speaker highlights that Lithuania has consistently supported and will continue to support the reforms necessary for Georgia’s European integration and Georgia’s aim to strengthen the principles of democracy and the rule of law in the country.

‘Our nations have taken a similar path to freedom and faced similar challenges, which brought us closer together. We must therefore cherish and protect freedom as well as defend the main principles of democracy together. During the last three decades, Georgia and Lithuania have made remarkable achievements and I hope they will progress even further, working hand in hand for the future of the countries as close partners,’ writes Čmilytė-Nielsen.
