Speaker of the Seimas expressed condolences to Italy

Viktoras Pranckietis, Speaker of the Seimas, having met with Stefano Taliani de Marchio, Italian Ambassador to Lithuania, expressed his condolences on behalf of the Lithuanian Parliament and his own.
“On behalf of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania and on my own behalf, may I convey my sincere condolences to the families of the victims of the avalanche that hit a mountain hotel in Italy,” the Speaker of the Seimas said during his meeting with the Ambassador.
The avalanche, which buried a mountain hotel in central Italy triggered by an earthquake, is believed to have taken the lives of 30 people, including several children.
Having expressed their sorrow for the painful tragedy, the Speaker of the Seimas and the Ambassador focussed on bilateral relations between Lithuania and Italy and cooperation in science, education, technology and innovation. They also discussed the security situation and challenges in Europe, as well as the preparation for the celebration of the centennial anniversary of the restoration of the Lithuanian state. Mr Pranckietis observed that Lithuania and Italy enjoyed strong cultural and historical ties.
