Speaker of the Seimas met with the leader of the Polish ruling party
Press release, 6 June 2019
In the framework of his visit to Warsaw, Republic of Poland, Viktoras Pranckietis, Speaker of the Seimas, met with Jarosław Kaczyński, leader of Law and Justice, the Polish ruling party.
The meeting discussed, among other relevant issues, the prospect of bilateral relations and the situation of ethnic minorities.
In an hour-long conversation, both parties acknowledged that currently Lithuania and Poland enjoyed good relations, void of any major challenges or discord. Further promotion of close friendship by more frequent meetings and joint events was agreed on.
Mr Pranckietis and Mr Kaczyński welcomed the renewed activities of the bilateral parliamentary assembly, which would hopefully yield tangible results and promote further development of bilateral relations.
Moreover, Lithuania and Poland have active ethnic community groups. Therefore, both parties agreed that equal rights must be ensured for both Lithuanian Poles and Polish Lithuanians.
Finally, the participants at the meeting recognised that cooperation between political parties is also crucial and expressed hopes that relations would be maintained on the political level, too.
