Speaker of the Seimas congratulated Finland on Independence Day
Press release, 6 December 2022
On behalf of the Seimas and on her own behalf, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, congratulated the Finish Eduskunta and its Speaker Matti Vanhanen on Independence Day. In her congratulatory letter, the Speaker of the Seimas noted that the declaration of Finland’s independence 105 years ago had been a courageous act of liberation from the Tsarist Russia in the centuries-long quest for freedom.
‘More than a century onwards, we are facing similar challenges in Europe, namely, a threatening neighbourhood and brutal aggression. I believe that the historic decision on Finland’s membership of NATO will lead to even closer cooperation in various fields and will ensure regional security and a prosperous future for your country,’ the letter reads.
