About Committee

The remit of the Committee on State Administration and Local Authorities

Within its remit, the Committee on State Administration and Local Authorities is engaged in the legislative process and is responsible for legal regulation of state administration, framework of parliamentary, presidential, municipal and European elections, public administration, administrative division of the state territory, local self-government, regional development, public service, and balancing of private and public interests in public service, as well as for the quality of this legal regulation. The Committee carries out parliamentary scrutiny with the view to ensuring proper implementation of respective legal acts by national and local authority institutions and agencies.

The Committee maintains close cooperation with the Association of Local Authorities in Lithuania and other social partners.

Continuous development of inter-parliamentary relations is also pursued by the Committee. It has built friendly and business-like relations with counterpart parliamentary committees in Poland, Estonia, Latvia, and a number of other countries.     

The remit of the Committee is set out in Article 69 of the Statute of the Seimas.
