Press release, 15 February 2022
On 15–17 February 2022, Laima Liucija Andrikienė, Chair of the Seimas Committee on Foreign Affairs, and chairs of foreign committees of the Latvian Saeima and Estonian Riigikogu are meeting representatives of the Italian authorities in Rome.
‘The support of the southern EU Member States, including Italy, is very important to us. It is essential to engage actively with Italian politicians in order to ensure that our EU and NATO partners have an objective understanding of the security situation in the Baltic region and to secure their greater support for the Eastern Partnership countries, including Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia, and for their European integration aspirations.
Our shared experience and solidarity in tackling the challenges of irregular migration represent yet another reason for closer cooperation with Italy. Italy has a long experience in this field and has a good understanding of the problems that the Baltic countries have recently been facing,’ said Laima Andrikienė.
On 15 February 2021, the Committee Chair is meeting Mons. Miroslaw Wachowski, Under-Secretary for the Holy See’s Relations with States, and the Lithuanians working at the Holy See.
