STOCK

 

The Seimas Reference Library contains over 12,000 books and periodical publications under 220 different titles. Since 1 November 2000 articles published by or about Seimas members in the Lithuanian press have been collected into an archive, also providing bibliographical lists of these articles. Similarly, the analytical research work produced by the Information Analysis Department of the Lithuanian Seimas and by the Parliament and Government Information Department of the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania is stored in the stock, while the most important articles from the Lithuanian press are collected into an archive. The stock of the Reference Library is open. There 12 workplaces in the reading room. The majority of books in the stock are related to law, politics, economy or history. The Reference Library also has a considerable stock of reference materials, such as dictionaries, reference books, encyclopaedias; moreover, it has an electronic catalogue which also includes the publications kept in other departments of the Seimas.
 

 

REFERENCE LIBRARY SERVICES

 

 

 

Services to Seimas members, signatories of the Independence Act, assistants of Seimas members and staff of the Seimas Office are delivered in accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the Seimas Information Analysis Department and the Reader Service Regulations of the Seimas Reference Library:

  1. The publications kept in the Reference Library may be borrowed for a month. If required, their reading time may be extended;
  2. The Reference Library provides factographic and bibliographic information. Inquiries of greater complexity or volume are referred to the Parliament and Government Information Department of the Martynas Ma?vydas National Library;
  3. The publications kept in the Library may be copied only if requested by a Seimas member, a Signatory of the Independence Act or a staff member of Seimas Committees or the Seimas Office;
  4. When more than ten pages must be copied, it is done by the Copying Subdivision of the Seimas Information Technologies Department.

Publications from the stock of the Martynas Mažvydas National Library are delivered to the readers in the Seimas following the Individual Lending Regulations of the National Library of Lithuania.

Readers may borrow those publications which are relevant to their work in the Seimas. Borrowed may be no more than five books for no longer than a month.

Readers may not borrow:

1) Publications from the Lituanica Department stock;
2) Art collections and albums;
3) Old, rare and valuable publications;
4) Encyclopaedias and dictionaries;
5) Bibliographic and information-providing periodicals;
6) Publications kept in the stock as single copies;
7) Text-books; and
8) Bound sets and most recent issues or single copies of newspapers and magazines.

The individual lending procedure has been laid down by Decree No 3-32 of 29 October 1993 of the Director of the National Library of Lithuania.

When working in the Seimas Reference Library, readers may access the Internet and search for information in the database of the European Union, LRS IS legal information system of the Seimas, computer databases of the Seimas Information Analysis Department, databases of the Martynas Ma?vydas National Library of Lithuania, and electronic catalogue of the Seimas Reference Library.

The Reference Library’s stock is open for use, without leaving the premises, by the visitors holding an entrance pass to the Seimas.

8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. (Mon - Thu), 8.00 a.m. to 3.45 p.m. (Fri).
The Reference Library is closed to readers on the last Friday every month (sanitary day).
