Lithuania’s 18th Government took the oath

Press release, 11 December 2020

 

Following the approval of the Government programme by the Seimas on 11 December 2020, the oath was taken by the Ministers of the 18th Government, namely, Ingrida Šimonytė, Prime Minister; Arvydas Anušauskas, Minister of National Defence; Aušrinė Armonaitė, Minister of Economy and Innovation; Agnė Bilotaitė, Minister of the Interior; Evelina Dobrovolska, Minister of Justice; Arūnas Dulkys, Minister of Health; Simonas Gentvilas, Minister of Environment; Simonas Kairys, Minister of Culture; Dainius Kreivys, Minister of Energy; Gabrielius Landsbergis, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Kęstutis Navickas, Minister of Agriculture; Monika Navickienė, Minister of Social Security and Labour; Gintarė Skaistė, Minister of Finance; Marius Skuodis, Minister of Transport and Communications; Jurgita Šiugždinienė, Minister of Education, Science and Sport.

The oath was administered by Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas. The nominal oath sheets of the members of the Government were handed over to the Speaker of the Seimas for storage in the Office of the Seimas.

 

After the members of the new Government had been sworn in, the 17th Government ended its activities.

 

Article 67 of the Constitution provides that the Seimas considers the programme of the Government presented by the Prime Minister and decides whether to give assent to it.

Article 92 of the Constitution stipulates that a new Government receives the powers to act after the Seimas gives assent to its programme by majority vote of the Members of the Seimas participating in the sitting.

Article 6 of the Law on the Government regulates that when the Seimas approves the programme of the Government, the Government must within 3 months approve priority measures for the implementation of the provisions of the said programme.
