XXVI session of the Assembly of Lithuanian and Polish Parliaments was held in Vilnius

The XXVI session of the Assembly of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania and the Sejm and Senate of the Republic of Poland was held in Vilnius. Opening the session, Robert Puchovič, Head of the Seimas Delegation to the Assembly, emphasised that this was the second meeting of parliamentarians from both countries this year, demonstrating close and constructive cooperation and a solid historical foundation for further development of bilateral relations.

The session addressed key issues and challenges related to the geopolitical situation and the defence and security partnership between Poland and Lithuania;food security in times of emergency or crisis and the establishment of a reserve for agricultural and food products; and cooperation between Poland and Lithuania in ensuring respect for the rights of national minorities.

Participants also included Andrius Palionis, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania; Tomas Godliauskas, Vice-Minister of National Defence; Jonas Petkevičius, Vice-Minister for General Education; and Barbara Aliaševičienė, Vice-Minister of Justice.

Parliamentarians reaffirmed the commitment of both sides to strengthen further the strategic partnership based on the principles of good neighbourly relations, equality, and mutually beneficial cooperation. They also underlined that Poland and Lithuania remain committed to respecting the rights of national minorities in accordance with bilateral agreements and international obligations.
