On 23 November, Saulius Skvernelis, Speaker of the Seimas, met with Rustem Umerov, Minister of Defence of Ukraine, who was on his visit to Lithuania.
‘I am convinced that the criminal actions and attacks by the invader will fail to break the Ukrainian state and nation. Lithuania and its people stand strong with you in your freedom fight. After Ukraine achieves victory, Lithuania will be the first country to contribute to the reconstruction of Ukraine’s infrastructure,’ Mr Skvernelis said.
The Speaker of the Seimas emphasised that the new ruling coalition would continue to staunchly support Ukraine and further provide military, political, economic and humanitarian assistance, which was expected to increase in size.
The meeting, moreover, included an exchange of views on the security situation in the region, as well as on initiatives and formats of inter-parliamentary cooperation between Lithuania and Ukraine with a view to further enhancing the bilateral political, economic and cultural dialogue and achieving international peace and stability.
The meeting was also attended by Giedrimas Jeglinskas, Chair of the Seimas Committee on National Security and Defence.
During his visit, the Ukrainian Minister of Defence took part in the events marking Lithuanian Armed Forces Day.
