On the occasion of the third anniversary of the war in Ukraine, Saulius Skvernelis, Speaker of the Seimas, met with Olha Nikitchenko, Ambassador of Ukraine to Lithuania, who has recently begun her diplomatic service in Lithuania.
Three years into the war, we can clearly see who are the true friends that can be trusted when facing the aggressor, and who have only their own pragmatic interests at heart. The fate of Ukraine will be the ultimate test for Western democracies. Failing it would put the whole Europe on the line. It is therefore crucial at this stage to be under no illusions about the so-called peace and to demonstrate the unity of Europe as a whole,’ Mr Skvernelis said.
During the meeting, the Speaker of the Seimas underlined that Lithuania will remain a staunch supporter of Ukraine in NATO, the EU, and other international forums. Since January 2025, Lithuania has been implementing the EU Integration Facility for Ukraine programme to help Ukraine with its EU accession preparations.
Further political, economic, and military support for Ukraine in its fight for freedom was also discussed with the newly appointed Ambassador.
