Agreement between Lithuania and Latvia on provision of ambulance services in the border area ratified

In accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania and having regard to the presidential decree, the Seimas has ratified the Agreement between the Government  of the Republic of Lithuania and the Government of the Republic of Latvia on the Cross-border Cooperation in the Provision of Ambulance Services in the Border Area between Lithuania and Latvia.

Signed in Bauska on 3 October 2018, the Agreement (draft Law on the Ratification No XIIP-3110(2)) was unanimously ratified by 103 votes in favour.

The explanatory note to the draft Law on the Ratification reads that the Agreement establishes legal regulation that will enable an ambulance crew to provide services for an initial diagnosis and necessary medical care in the border area in case of emergency (life-threatening situation). If necessary, the services will also include transportation of patients to the nearest hospital capable of providing the necessary inpatient health care in the territory of the Contracting Party requesting aid, as well as the processing of emergency calls and dispatch of ambulance crews.
