Seimas commemorated the late David Sassoli, President of the European Parliament, by a minute of silence

Today, the Seimas has paid tribute to the memory of David Sassoli, President of the European Parliament, who died in hospital in Italy this Tuesday early in the morning.

Mr Sassoli began his 30 years’ career as a newspaper journalist, then switched to television and became a well-known reporter throughout Italy. Elected to the European Parliament in 2009, David Sassoli became President of the European Parliament in 2019. He was a member of the centre-left Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, the second largest political group in the European Parliament.
