Seimas increased fines for noise violations

The Seimas has tightened the liability for the disturbance of public peace. This has been enacted by amending the Code of Administrative Offences.
Shouting, whistling, loud singing, loud playing of musical instruments or other audio devices, and other noise-making acts on the streets, in squares, parks, beaches, public transport and other public places at all times; and in residential premises, enterprises, institutions or organisations, where such noise disturbs people’s peace, rest or work, in the evening time (from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.) and at night time (from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.), are subject to a fine from EUR 80 to EUR 200, instead of a fine from EUR 20 to EUR 80, for natural persons. Managers or other officials in charge of legal persons will be fined from EUR 200 to EUR 300 for the above offences.
Repeat offences are subject to a fine from EUR 200 (previously EUR 80) to EUR 300 for natural persons and from EUR 300 to EUR 400 for managers or other officials in charge of legal persons.
The above administrative offences committed at a public event in a public place may result in a ban on attending events in public places for a period from one month to one year.
The respective amendments to Article 488 of the Code of Administrative Offences were adopted by 60 votes in favour, with 17 votes against and 30 abstentions.
