Speaker of the Seimas congratulates the new Speaker of the US House of Representatives

On behalf of the Seimas and on her own behalf, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, has congratulated Mike Johnson on becoming Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. She wished him every success and endurance in discharging his duties and in attaining the set goals.

‘I am confident that the US Congress will continue to support the Baltic security initiatives and assistance to Ukraine, that the cooperation between the US Congress and the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania will continue growing in strength and that the close and mutually beneficial partnership between the United States and Lithuania will help to build a better, safer and fairer world,’ the congratulatory letter reads.

Taking the opportunity, the Speaker of the Seimas encouraged Mr Johnson to hold a meeting of Speakers of Parliaments of NATO member countries in the run-up to the next year’s NATO Summit in Washington.

‘The first pre-summit meeting of Speakers of Parliaments, held in Vilnius on 1–3 June this year, served as compelling evidence that collective parliamentary action has had a significant effect on decision-making by Heads of State and Government,’ Ms Čmilytė-Nielsen underlined.
