Why was the Visitor Centre established?
The Seimas has a large influx of visitors, with over 700 visitor groups per year, which translates into over 20,000 people. As this number kept annually growing, a need arose to find more convenient and enabling solutions. The main objective of the Centre is to promote an open dialogue between the Seimas and the public, ensure accessibility of the Seimas, and educate responsible voters. The educational sessions and guided tours offered by the Visitor Centre will equally complement civic education provided for pupils under the school curriculum. Teachers frequently did this before by bringing pupils to the Seimas. However, they requested the Office of the Seimas on a number of occasions to offer other additional forms of civic education. Similar requests have been made by Members of the Seimas who regularly invite pupils and community members to visit the Seimas every year. After visiting foreign parliaments and Visitor Centres abroad, MPs suggested to the Office of the Seimas to build on the good practice.
