Expression of gratitude by the Seimas Committee on Foreign Affairs to the Senate of the Czech Republic and its Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security

The Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania sincerely thanks the Senate of the Czech Republic in high appreciation of its resolution of 15 December 2021 expressing support to and solidarity with Lithuania that is under unilateral pressure from the People’s Republic of China owing to the decisions taken by Lithuania as a sovereign state in adherence to its position of principle and aspirations for the diversification of economic interests in the Indo-Pacific region.

In its resolution, the Senate of the Czech Republic made it clear that the action of the People’s Republic of China towards Lithuania is contrary to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

This statement of solidarity has particularly significance to Lithuania, which currently is not only suffering the consequences of the hostile action by the People’s Republic of China, but also countering the continuous hybrid attack initiated by the Belarusian regime. Lithuania, in cooperation with Poland and Latvia, firmly protects the borders of the European Union underpinned by the principles of democracy, respect for human rights and the rule of law. We thank the Czech Republic for its continuous and timely support for Lithuania on strategic matters of foreign policy.

We also express our particular gratitude to Pavel Fischer, Chairperson of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security of the Senate of the Czech Republic, who initiated this important resolution of the Senate, and to the Committee headed by him and regularly and productively cooperating with our Committee on Foreign Affairs on the basis of the aspirations for solidarity, mutual respect, and spread of democracy.
