Delegation led by Viktoras Pranckietis, Speaker of the Seimas, marked the Centenary of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania in the European Parliament

Viktoras Pranckietis, Speaker of the Seimas, paid a working visit to Brussels on Wednesday, 21 February 2018, where he attended the commemoration of the Centenary of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania held in the European Parliament and met with Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President of the European Commission for Energy Union.

Antonio Tajani, President of the European Parliament, joined the leadership of the Seimas in the commemoration of the Centenary of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania held in the European Parliament in Brussels.

The meeting between Mr Šefčovič and the Speaker of the Seimas discussed the funding of the closure of the Ignalina NPP after 2020. “Security of the European Union and management of radioactive waste and radiation protection is the matter pertaining to the wellbeing of all EU citizens,” said Viktoras  Pranckietis. The meeting also focused on the Rail Baltica project and the synchronisation of the Baltic States’ electricity networks with and integration in the Continental European networks.

During the visit the Speaker of the Seimas was accompanied by Irena Degutienė and Gediminas Kirkilas (Chair of the Committee on European Affairs), Deputy Speakers of the Seimas.
