Speaker of the Seimas congratulated Georgia on the centenary of its independence

Press release, 26 May 2018

On behalf of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania and on his own behalf, Viktoras Pranckietis, Speaker of the Seimas, congratulated H.E. Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, and the people of Georgia on the centenary of their independence.

The Speaker of the Seimas noted that this year has been exceptional for both countries, since both Georgia and Lithuania are celebrating the centenaries of the independence of their states. “Active and close cooperation between our counties is based on mutual understanding and shared values,” Mr Pranckietis said.

“We welcome the clear and solid commitment of your country to seek European and Euro-Atlantic integration and express our support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” said the Speaker of the Seimas in his letter of congratulations.

Mr Pranckietis was also happy to note that, on the occasion of the centenary, Lithuania made a gift to Georgia by establishing a possibility to use ‘Sakartvelo’ as the authentic name of the country which is acceptable to the people of Georgia.
