Speaker of the Seimas: ‘High popular support translates into hope that prosperity, concord and respect will be developed and fostered in the country’

Press release, 12 July 2019

Viktoras Pranckietis, Speaker of the Seimas, congratulated President Gitanas Nausėda at the inaugural ceremony by wishing him success in promoting and fostering respect, consensus, and prosperity in the country.

‘I am confident that your sharp analytical acumen will help to consolidate the principles of presidential representation on strategic matters in our country. I hope that the constitutional duty to address the key foreign policy issues and shape foreign policy in cooperation with the Government will remain high on your agenda,’ said the Speaker of the Seimas.

In his congratulatory address, Mr Pranckietis commended the President’s decision to go to the Republic of Poland for his first foreign visit, as ‘maintaining the ties of partnership with Poland is important not only for Lithuania, but also for the region at large. After all, we are all stakeholders in the current geopolitical situation.’

In the words of the Speaker of the Seimas, strong national defence has become a matter of prestige for Lithuania and marks a high level of situational awareness of the population. ‘Today, with a cross-party consensus in place, we are no longer in a position to relent on higher objectives of the national security policy. We need to aim for more,’ the Speaker of the Seimas said.

Mr Pranckietis expressed to President Nausėda his wishes of success in representing the country and in pursuing actions and decisions that help to secure peace and public trust.
