Speaker of the Seimas paid tribute to Moldova for the recognition of Lithuania’s independence 30 years ago

Press release, 1 June 2020

In his letter to Zinaida Greceanîi, President of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, Viktoras Pranckietis, Speaker of the Seimas, called the step taken by the Moldovan Parliament in recognising Lithuania’s independence 30 years ago as bold and noble. Moldova took the step on 31 May 1990, despite still being part of the Soviet Union.

‘Recalling it with appreciation, we are grateful to Moldovan politicians for this sign of solidarity. Lithuania backs the territorial integrity of Moldova and has fully supported and will continue to support its European integration aspirations. While developing friendly relations between the parliaments of our countries, we are willing to share our experience by participating in joint projects,’ Mr Pranckietis wrote.
