Speaker of the Seimas congratulates Slovenia on Statehood Day

Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, congratulates, on behalf of the Seimas and on her own behalf, Igor Zorčič, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia, and all the people of the country on Statehood Day.

‘On the occasion of this historic day, I wish your people prosperity and welfare. May you, Dear Mr President, and your colleagues have every success in discharging your very responsible and challenging duties,’ the congratulatory letter by the Speaker of the Seimas reads.

Ms Čmilytė-Nielsen also underlines that Slovenia and Lithuania are bound by similar history.

‘Let me express my sincere gratitude to Slovenia for having been among the first countries to recognise the restored independence of Lithuania 30 years ago. Today, we have much to appreciate together. Our countries both became EU members at the same time; we are close in terms of our approach to the respect for human rights and democratic values. I am convinced that we will continue building a better and more secure future for our people, and that we will enjoy ever closer parliamentary cooperation,’ the Speaker of the Seimas says.
