Press release, 3 October 2021
On behalf of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania and on her own behalf, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, congratulated Wolfgang Schäuble, President of the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany, and the people of the country on the Day of German Unity.
‘I wish the German Parliament focus and success in addressing the current challenges together with the country’s population’, the congratulation letter by the Speaker of the Seimas read.
The Speaker of the Seimas also noted that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the recognition of restored independence of Lithuania and resumption of diplomatic relations.
‘We have maintained excellent relations between our parliaments, institutions, and local authorities as well as cultural and people-to-people contacts over these three decades. Our society particularly appreciates your solidarity on security, which is greatly enhanced by the German command of the NATO Enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group in Lithuania. I am confident that the new Bundestag that has recently secured trust by the German society will continue to support the meaningful links based on our shared values’, said the Speaker of the Seimas.
