Delegations of the Foreign Affairs Committees of the Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian Parliaments meet in Lithuania

Delegations of the Foreign Affairs Committees of the Baltic Parliaments: Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, Riigikogu of the Republic of Estonia, and Saeima of the Republic of Latvia are meeting in Lithuania on 9–11 June. The delegations are led by Laima Andrikienė, Marko Mihkelson and Rihards Kols, Chairpersons of the parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committees.

 

The meeting is dedicated to discussing the security situation in the Baltic region and the decisions of the NATO Summit in Madrid (keynote speaker: Giedrimas Jeglinskas, NATO Deputy Secretary General), the reform of the United Nations and the establishment of the special international criminal tribunal for the crimes of aggression in Ukraine (keynote speaker: Prof. Dainius Žalimas, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Vytautas Magnus University, former President of the Constitutional Court, and member of the Venice Commission,), and granting of EU candidate status to Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia (keynote speaker: Arnoldas Pranckevičius, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Lithuania to the European Union).

 

The politicians are also meeting with officers of the Lithuanian Border Guard Service to discuss the challenges for the protection of the EU and NATO border with the Russian Federation. On Saturday, the delegations are scheduled to visit Klaipėda to be briefed on the vessels of the Warship Flotilla of the Lithuanian Navy and meet with the commanders of the Flotilla.
